“What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?”
~Robert Schuller
What a great question!
Have you ever noticed that children run through life with a curiosity and delight about them? They have this look and sound of sheer excitement at the opportunity to explore. It never dawns on them that something could go wrong.
At what point do we lose that excitement, curiosity and joy to experience life freely? I think it's different for each person, and happens at some point during childhood. It is a subtle shift that goes unnoticed … until one day you realize you are afraid to explore. You are afraid of falling and of failing.
One of my favorite musical artists is Seal. He has a song that is fairly popular called Crazy. Part of the lyrics read, “… In a sky full of people only some want to fly; isn't that crazy? In a world full of people only some want to fly; isn't that crazy? …”
When I first realized what he was saying, I found myself in awe at how true that statement is. Each of us has so many gifts, so many talents, so much to offer to others … and we are often afraid to fly, to share our gifts.
This is my challenge to you …
As we begin heading into fall, what is ONE thing you want to accomplish in 2008 that you have yet to do?
- Would you be willing to start TODAY?
- Are you willing to “fly”?
- Are you willing to attempt it, even if you did not know the outcome?
Life is about the journey. Watch the children around you … the sparkle in their eye, their innocence. Look at the world from those eyes and remember your own essence, your own innocence, and your own gifts.
You have wings. It's time to fly!
Have a beautiful September!
